The author examines how ancient pagan-religious beliefs were brought into the emerging scientific arena by 18^th century Enlightenment philosophers—men such as Erasmus Darwin, David Hume and Benoit de Maillet. During the 19^th Century the pagan concepts of evolution & deep time were further re-enforced in the public sphere by Charles Lyell, Charles Darwin, and others. Dissenters were ridiculed and suppressed, as they are today. This is essentially the ‘Darwin Code’.
